Boys Sweet 16 begins Wednesday

The boys Sweet 16 tournament gets underway on Wednesday at Rupp
Arena, headlined by high-flying Elliott County and defending
champion Mason County.
Yet the tournament will begin without the state's top-ranked
team. No. 1 Scott County fell to Lexington Catholic in the regional
final, leaving this year's Sweet 16 wide-open.
There is plenty of talent, but no proverbial favorite, left in
the field. Among the contenders are the four teams that followed
Scott County in the final poll. They are last year's runner-up, No.
2 Holmes, No. 3 Louisville Eastern, No. 4 Elliott County and No. 5
Shelby Valley.
Also in Lexington will be No. 8 Corbin, defending state champion
Mason County as well as LexCath, one of six teams returning from
last year.
