Slone given release, weighing options
Walk-on and fan favorite Landon Slone has asked for, and been given, his release from the UK basketball team. While not technically a scholarship player, Slone had to inform the school of his intentions to transfer.
Slone, who played at Paintsville High School, told 27 SportsFirst that he has tried unsuccessfully to address his situation with new coach John Calipari.

Walk-on and fan favorite Landon Slone has asked for, and been given, his release from the UK basketball team. While not technically a scholarship player, Slone had to inform the school of his intentions to transfer.
Slone, who played at Paintsville High School, told 27 SportsFirst that he has tried unsuccessfully to address his situation with new coach John Calipari.
The freshman guard said he's currently weighing his options, which include possibly transferring to Arkansas or Morehead, or staying at UK. Slone will visit Morehead on Friday.
Slone said his lifelong dream was to play at Kentucky and he enjoyed his time in Lexington. "I'm trying to keep my spirits up. I have no regrets."
When asked about rumors he might rejoin former UK coach Billy Gillispie, Slone said he hadn't given it much thought. If Gillispie took a great job, Slone said he might follow.

Landon, grew-up in Martin, KY, not Langley. He lived at Langley maybe 4-5 years. He chose to go to Paintsville his 8th grade year. His mother and him moved to Paintsville that year after leaving MCA. Best move the kid ever may was playing basketball for Coach Bill Mike Runyon...He made Landon the kind of player these colleges look at. It give Landon more opportunities to play in the Boys State Tournament. This is where Landon proved to everyone the kind a player he really is. That's where Coach Billy G. first saw him..may the comment that he had to have that kid. Landons career could have went anywhere, but chose to follow a dream all kids in KY have...thats to play for UK. Lets all remember that the Slone kid is for real.

First, I am very close to Landon Slone. He DID NOT ASK for a release from KY....Landon tried to meet with Coach Cal and it did not happen. The assistant Coach told him if he had options he best take them because Coach "DID NOT PLAY WALK_ONS!!!!!What would you have thought as a player. All these rumors about he ask for a release is not true. As for Landon's ability to play at the Div I level he proved his self everytime that the boy went on the floor. LISTEN TO THE FANS when that kid played. He is what KY BASKETBALL is suppose to be about. Not recuits that does not have a clue about the meaning and the heart of our KY basketball program. It to them is about getting a scholarship somewhere to play ball. I hate that people have lost sight of what the word "HEART" means. We need to understand about the Slone kid feelings having to leave not by his choice, but by theirs. Yes, he wanted to follow is dream. Quote Coach Gillispie, Slone is one of the best players I have ever coached..

i grew up with the guy....we played AAU basketball together growing up...i wish the best to him...but simply i do not think he was Kentucky level talent...he has really turned into a good guy as he's got older and personally i would like to see him get some PT at somewhere like morehead...i do not see Arkansas as an option but with Pelphrey and the Paintsville connections who knows...Bill Mike Runyon coached both Pelphrey and landon in high school...iwill correct the guy who did the phone interview and say that slone didn't grow up in paintsville, he grew up in Lamgley, ky....and he chose to go to Paintsville in high school....(Don't blame him either)
