Former Wildcat on top after first round of ADI Classic

Georgetown, KY (May 28, 2009)… Former University of Kentucky golfer and defending tournament champion Mark Blakefield (Maysville, KY) shares the opening round lead at The ADI Classic over the 6842 yard par 72 Cherry Blossom Golf Club with Andrew Medley (Athens, AL) after each posted opening rounds of eight-under par 64.

The pair will take a one stroke advantage into Friday’s second round over Joshua Wooding (Riverside, CA), Kelly Grunewald (Grand Prairie, TX) and Michael Schachner (Libertyville, IL), each carding opening rounds of seven under par 65.

A group of four golfers remain two strokes off the lead after posting six under par rounds of 66. This group includes Patrick Nagle (Pacifica, CA), Bobby MacWhinnie (Pittsburgh, PA), Luke Hart (Blythewood, SC) and Sean McTernan (Sligo, Ireland).

Other former University of Kentucky golfers in the field at the ADI Classic include Brad Doster (Winter Park, FL) who posted a first round five under par 67, Matthew Kohn (Maitland, FL) and Tyler Wilson (Lexington) who each finished with opening round three under par 69's.

Eastern Kentucky head golf coach Pat Stephens heads up the rest of the Kentucky contingency at The ADI Classic after firing a four-under par 68, while Phil Hendrickson (Danville) and Ryan Britt (Louisville) each posted three under par rounds of 69 and Rich Cochran (Paducah) finished with a round of two under par 70 in his first effort.

After a midday rain delay two groups remain on the golf course and will complete their first rounds at 8:00am Friday morning. Round Two will begin as scheduled at 7:30 am Friday morning. The cut will be made at the conclusion of round two with the low 60 professionals and ties making the cut.

The total purse for The ADI Classic at Cherry Blossom Golf Club is $200,000 with $33,566 going to the winner.
