Former Wildcat cut by Falcons

Just hours after signing a free agent contract with the Atlanta Falcons, former UK receiver Dicky Lyons, Jr. was released by the team.

On his Twitter page, Lyons posted: "Just got cut from the Atlanta Falcons. Didn't even get to step on the field. Sometimes that's the way the cookie crumbles? Back to work."

Lyons told Kentucky.com on Wednesday that he participated briefly in a workout on Tuesday and that the Falcons didn’t go into specifics about why he was released.

“I didn’t run one route,” Lyons said. “(The Falcons) told me beforehand I could be there for a day or a week. It was only temporary either way. They didn’t go into detail. But hey, I accomplished what I wanted. I got to run on the field for the kickoff. My last football play was not when I got hurt, so I am thankful for that.”

Lyons said he plans on returning to Lexington next week and exploring other career options.
