NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Mike Rose made a pair of free throws
with 4.9 seconds left to help Eastern Kentucky hold off Tennessee
Tech 57-54 Friday night in the semifinals of the Ohio Valley
Conference basketball tournament.
Eastern Kentucky (20-11), the No. 2 seed, advances to Saturday
night's championship game to play top-seeded Austin Peay, which
defeated Samford 65-55 earlier Friday.
Tennessee Tech (19-13) had a final chance to tie the game, but
Anthony Fisher's 3-point shot hit off the right side of the rim as
the final horn sounded.
The Colonels stayed in control of the game for much of the
second half, leading by as many as eight points with 8:40 to play.
The Golden Eagles got as close as one point twice in the final 30
seconds, but could not tie or take the lead.
Eastern Kentucky put the game away with solid free throw
shooting, making their final eight free throws in a row.
Rose and Adam Leonard scored 16 points each to lead the
Colonels, and were the only two Eastern Kentucky players to reach
Belton Rivers and Fisher had 13 points each for the Golden
Eagles, while Amadi McKenzie added 12 for Tennessee Tech.
