Georgetown College in 16th Straight NAIA Tournament

Tigers to Play Xavier (LA) in NAIA First Round

The third-seed and third-ranked Georgetown College Tigers will play Xavier (LA) in the first round of the 2007 Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship on Thursday, March 15th at 4:30 p.m. CST, according to the pairings released on Wednesday afternoon. All games will be played in the Municipal Auditorium.

This is the 16th straight appearance and 26th overall for the Georgetown College Tigers who are on a 20-game winning streak, including an unprecedented perfect 10-0 in the Mid-South Conference regular season. On Sunday they won MSC Tournament on Sunday with a 65-64 win over the University of the Cumberlands.

The Gold Rush bring a 21-9 record into the national tournament and tied for first place in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference regular season with a 13-5 conference record. Xavier received votes in the last national rankings of the year, tying for 27th with McKendree (IL).

“I am happy with this team’s progress this far and I am really looking forward to another national tournament,” said Georgetown Head Coach Happy Osborne.

The winner will advance to Friday’s second round against the winner of the Northwestern Oklahoma and Lewis-Clark State game. The second round game is slated to begin at 8:00 p.m. CST.

All Georgetown College games will be broadcast live on 104.9 FM and www.georgetowncollegeathletics.com. There are also video-streaming packages available to watch one or all games via the internet. Single games are $7.95 each or the entire tournament, excluding the championship game, (30 games total) can be purchased for $24.95.

In addition, the NAIA has teamed up with Metro Sports to broadcast the semifinal games on Metro Sports in the Kansas City metropolitan area and live nationwide on CSTV. The championship game will air live nationally on CSTV. Contact your cable company for station availability.

Tickets are $9 per ticket for general admission for adults and $5 for students per session. Add $3 per ticket for reserved seating. All-Tournament tickets are available for $50 for general admission and $75 for reserved seating.

Other Mid-South Conference teams receiving bids are Cumberlands and Campbellsville University.
