Breathitt County Falls in Sweet 16

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Adia Mathies scored 22 points and grabbed
14 rebounds as Louisville Iroquois outlasted Breathitt County 57-46
in the opening game of the Girls Sweet 16 state basketball
tournament Wednesday.
Iroquois (30-2), champion of Region 6, advances to Friday's
quarterfinal round of the tournament to face the winner of
Wednesday's opening round game between Clay County and North
Hardin.
Breathitt County, champion of Region 14, finished its season at
25-6.
The game was back and forth in the second half with neither team
holding more than a five-point lead until Mathies scored eight
consecutive points with a pair of three-point plays and two more
free throws that pushed the Lady Raiders lead to 53-45 with just
over two minutes to play.
Iroquois dominated on the offensive boards, getting 17 offensive
rebounds to seven for the taller Lady Bobcats.
Iroquois' Stafonia Taylor scored 13 points and grabbed 12
rebounds for Iroquois.
Lenae Shouse, Breathitt's 6-2 center, led the Lady Bobcats with
19 points. Kendall Noble added 11 points and Nicole Lutes 10 for
Breathitt County.
