BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Louisville Assumption has crushed Wayne County 42-to-18 in the first round of the Girls' Sweet Sixteen state basketball tournament in Bowling Green.
Thia Golston had 13 points and eleven rebounds for the Rockets' victory tonight.
The Seventh Region champions jumped to a 16-to-three lead after the first quarter and never trailed in the game. The victory set up a quarterfinal meeting for the Rockets with Barren County on Friday.
Assumption outrebounded Wayne County 39-to-17.
The 12th Region champion Lady Cardinals got as close as 16-to-12 in the second quarter, but Assumption opened the second half with a ten-nothing run to take a 29-to-12 lead with four and a half minutes to play in the third quarter. Gholston scored the first six points of the run.
Wayne County struggled shooting the ball throughout the game, finishing just seven-of-36 from the floor, including one-of-13 from three-point range. No Wayne County player finished with more than five points.
