Senate President proposes amendment on gambling

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky Senate President David Williams
is proposing a state constitutional amendment that would limit any
expanded gambling without amending the constitution.
Senate Republicans met Tuesday with Kentucky horse industry
leaders to discuss the future of gambling in the state.
Georgetown Republican Sen. Damon Thayer says he's also offering
a constitutional amendment that would allow video gambling machines
in the seven counties that already have horse racing tracks.
Horse industry reprsentatives for years have been pushing for an
expansion of gambling in Kentucky, and Gov. Steve Beshear has
supported the idea.
Kentucky Thoroughbreds Association President Don Robinson on
Tuesday said Thayer's and Williams' plans are "too little, too
late." Robinson says the horse industry supports casino gambling
at race tracks, the same plan that cleared the House earlier this
year.
