Freel can't back off dangerous, all-out style
SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) - Ryan Freel is set to start the Cincinnati Reds' season opener on Monday in center field, taking over for Ken Griffey Junior.
That's unless Freel runs into something else between now and then. He threw himself into a padded outfield wall making a diving catch during a spring training game yesterday. That left him in need of ice, X-rays and something for his headache.
The outfielder's emergency-room-or-bust style has made him a fan favorite in Cincinnati.
Freel says he's gotten to where he is by playing hard and doing everything he can to win.
He says if he's going to get hurt, so be it.
