LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A western Kentucky veterinarian will become the state's top horse racing doctor.
The Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet says Lafe Nichols of Henderson will take over for Nancy Davis as the racing veterinarian of the Kentucky Horse Racing Authority. Nichols established the Veterinary Medical Center in 19-85.
The chief veterinarian oversees a staff that ensures all racing in Kentucky complies with equine medical regulations. The K-H-R-A regulates the conduct of horse racing and pari-mutuel wagering on horse racing in Kentucky.
Nichols says he looks forward to ensuring that Kentucky's racing industry leads the world in providing the safest possible conditions at its tracks.
