Mindshaft Filly Brings Record Price

A Mineshaft filly was sold for a record $1.75 million on Tuesday at Keeneland's April Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale, the highest price ever paid for a filly during the event.

The price tag for A Mineshaft broke the mark set in 1999 of $1.25 million for Lochlin Slew. B. Wayne Hughes, owner of Spendthrift Farm near Lexington, made both purchases.

A Mineshaft, out of the Forty Niner mare Stylist Talent and consigned by Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds, worked an eighth of a mile in 9.3 seconds, equaling a world record for a juvenile auction work at that distance, Keeneland said.

Keeneland sold 82 horses Tuesday for $16,637,000, an average of $202,890 and a median of $155,000. Last year, 87 horses sold for $18,440,000, for an average of $211,954 and a median of $150,000.
