Lucas Cites Playing Time, Chooses Florida

Houston Bellaire point guard Jai Lucas told reporters he only made up his mind 20 minutes before his 2:30 p.m. news conference, but in the end, Lucas said, Florida came out on top.

Lucas, the son of former NBA star John Lucas, says he made his decision noting most of the team from the two-time defending national champions is leaving.

Lucas is hoping he can fill the shoes of former Gator point guard Taurean Green, who made himself eligible for the NBA draft, then signed with an agent.

Lucas chose the Gators over Oklahoma State, where his brother John III played, and Kentucky. Lucas, 5-foot-9, 165 lbs., is generally regarded as one of the 10 best high school point guards.

Another potential UK recruit, Beas Hamga, says he’ll play at UNLV. Hamga, a 7-footer from Decatur, IL, chose the Runnin’ Rebels over New Mexico and UK.

Power forward Patrick Patterson, who narrowed his list of schools to UK, Florida and Duke, will make his choice on Wednesday. WKYT will be in Huntington for Patterson’s announcement.
