UK To Buyout UMass Game

UK Spokesman Scott Stricklin confirmed Sunday night that UK will buyout the contract for a basketball game with Massachusetts next season. The cost will be $50,000. The game was scheduled for November 24th in Boston.

Last year Coach Travis Ford, a former Wildcat, brought the Minutemen to Rupp Arena where they lost to Kentucky 82-68. The game in Boston was the return game on a home-and-home contract.

Monday UK Deputy Director of Athletics Rob Mullens called it a very difficult decision but he said UK needed more home games on its schedule. Next season the Cats play at Indiana and Houston with home games against North Carolina and Louisville. Kentucky could meet a couple other high profile opponents in the Coaches Vs. Cancer Tournament early in the season. Connecticut, Oklahoma and Memphis are all in the field.
