PADUCAH, Ky. - Two Eastern Kentucky University baseball student-athletes earned two All-Ohio Valley Conference honors it was announced Tuesday night at the conference post-season banquet.
Sophomore Christian Friedrich was selected to the All-Conference First Team for the second consecutive season while junior shortstop Tyler Barnett was chosen for the All-Conference Second Team. The All-Conference teams were voted on by the leagues head coaches and sports information directors.
Friedrich was one of four OVC student-athletes to be named to the first team for the second straight season. The southpaw leads the conference in ERA (2.29), opposing batting average (.158), strikeouts (91) and strike outs per nine innings (10.97). He allowed only eight extra-base hits this season while compiling a record of 4-4. The Evanston, Ill. native allowed a league-low 41 hits in his 74.2 innings of work and has thrown two one-hitters in his last three starts.
Barnett was one of three players to start all 51 games in his first season with the Colonels. He ranks third on the team with a .311 batting average, adding 11 doubles, four home runs and 31 RBI. The St. Augustine, Fla. native, who led Eastern with 60 hits and 40 runs scored, was eighth in the conference with a .379 batting average during league play.
The fifth-seeded Colonels begin play in the 2007 O’Reilly OVC Tournament against fourth-seeded Samford on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. EST.
