INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The N-C-A-A has approved moving the men's three-point line back one foot to 20 feet, nine inches.
The change was recommended by the rules committee earlier this month and will take effect in the 2008-2009 season.
The decision by the Playing Rules Oversight Panel marks the first major alteration to the three-point line since its adoption in 1986.
The move comes after more than a decade of debate about whether
to extend the line.
The three-point line in women's basketball will remain unchanged.
