UK Signee Arrested

A University of Kentucky football recruit
appeared in court on Friday after being arrested on burglary
charges earlier in the week.
Covington police said Duran Jefferson, 19, was one of three who
broke into a house on Monday and stole several guns, including a
12-gauge shotgun and three .22-caliber rifles, the Cincinnati
Enquirer reported on its web site. Jefferson was charged with
first-degree burglary, a felony punishable by 10 to 20 years in
prison.
Jefferson played quarterback, wide receiver and defensive back
for Holmes High before with the Wildcats in February. He was
expected to play either wide receiver or defensive back for
Kentucky said team spokesman Tony Neely.
"We are very concerned and are monitoring the situation
closely," Kentucky coach Rich Brooks said in a statement. "His
status will be under review as the facts are determined."
Jefferson remained in jail on Friday afternoon and was not
expected to participate in graduation ceremonies at Holmes High.
