BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Boone Goldsmith scored on a 1-yard
touchdown run on fourth-and-goal in the second overtime to give
Boyle County a state championship by beating Lone Oak 42-39 Friday.
Lone Oak (14-1) dominated the first half of the KHSAA Class 4A
state final, leading 22-7 at halftime in Bowling Green.
Boyle County (15-0) pulled closer in the fourth quarter on
Goldsmith's 8-yard touchdown pass to Zach Hester with 8:53 to play
to make it 29-19. The Rebels scored again on Goldsmith's 6-yard TD
pass to Lamar Dawson to make it 29-26 Lone Oak with 4:05 left.
Boyle County pulled even on a 39-yard field goal by Phil
Barsotti with 4 seconds left to send the game into overtime.
After trading touchdowns in the first overtime, Lone Oak settled
for a field goal in the second overtime and Goldsmith got the
winning score on the ensuing possession.
