Torres, Legends Top 'Hoppers

Tim Torres single and scored on an error in the top of the 11th inning as Lexington edged Greensboro, 5-4, on Wednesday.
With the score knotted, 4-4, Torres led off the decisive inning with an infield single and Eric Taylor followed with a sacrifice. Reliever Donald Czyz fielded the bunt but threw wildly to first, allowing Torres to score the go-ahead run.

The Legends staged a three-run rally in the ninth, then got some great defense to force extra innings. Torres cut the deficit to 4-3 with a two-run homer, his fourth. Taylor singled to center, moved up when Koby Clemens was hit by a pitch and scored on James Van Ostrand's single to right field.

Torres, who went 3-for-5, saved the game for Lexington in the bottom of the ninth when the left fielder gunned down Chris Coghlan at the plate after he stole third and tried to score on catcher James Goethals' throwing error.

Van Ostrand had two hits and drove in two runs and Clemens chipped in two hits for the Legends (29-37).

Reliever Victor Garate (3-1) got the win after yielding two hits and three walks while striking out three over 2 1/3 innings. Kyle DeYoung gave up a hit and fanned two in the 11th to notch his second save.

Coghlan and John Raynor each had two hits and an RBI for the Grasshoppers (36-30), whose five-game win streak was snapped.

Czyz (2-3) allowed an unearned run on two hits and a walk while fanning one over two innings. --Chip Haunss/MLB.com
