The UAB men's basketball schedule may soon add some marquee spice with non-conference games against Kentucky and Gonzaga.
The Blazers are close to adding both teams to their non-conference slate for the 2007-08 season.
The Kentucky game would be a one-year deal but the Gonzaga matchup would be a home-and-home agreement, a person familiar with UAB's scheduling said.
The UAB-Kentucky game is tentatively slated for Dec. 15 at Freedom Hall in Louisville. It would be the fifth meeting between the schools with the last three coming in NCAA Tournaments. The Blazers knocked the Wildcats out of the NCAA Tournament in 1981 and 2004. Kentucky ended UAB's season in the first round of the 2006 NCAA Tournament.
