NEW YORK (AP) - Florida Derby winner Scat Daddy retired from racing because of an injured tendon in his right foreleg.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, Scat Daddy finished 18th in the Kentucky Derby in his last start. Pletcher said the colt came out of the May 5 race with scrapes and cuts, but had recovered and was back in training. After a workout June 10, the tendon injury was discovered.

Scat Daddy, owned by James Scatuorchio, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith, won five of nine races and earned $1,334,300. Among the colt's other wins were the Champagne Stakes and the Fountain of Youth Stakes.

"From his very first works, Scat Daddy showed us he was a horse of the highest class," Pletcher said in a statement. "He had great tactical speed and a marvelous will to win."

The horse will be retired to Ashford Stud in Lexington, Ky.
