Former Wildcat Could Join Louisville Staff

If you didn't like the idea of Rick Pitino coaching Louisville, then you really won’t like this story.

27 SPORTSFIRST has learned that former Wildcat Walter McCarty is the leading candidate to accept a position on Rick Pitino's staff as an assistant coach.

The only sticking point is whether current U of L assistant Marvin Menzies can finalize his deal with New Mexico State to become their head coach.

That would open a position on the cards staff for McCarty. The announcement is expected to come tomorrow.

McCarty was a key member of the Cats national championship team in 1996 and spent most of his NBA career with the Celtics. Some of those years when Pitino was the Celtics coach. McCarty didn't play in the NBA last year.
