HENDERSON, Ky. (AP) - A racing rarity is scheduled to occur today at Ellis Park in western Kentucky.
Seventeen-year-old thoroughbred "Alpena Magic," is scheduled to run in the third race.
Officials at Ellis say stewards have tentatively cleared Alpena Magic to race.
Steward Ron Herbstreit says the gelding still must pass muster, including a standard prerace veterinary examination, before starting in the five-and-a-half-furlong race.
Racing secretary Dan Bork says he and Herbstreit are unaware of an age limit on horses to race in Kentucky. Generally, horses older than 15 are barred in many racing jurisdictions in North America.
