Rowan girls advance

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Tierra Hamilton scored a game-high 13
points to help Rowan County to a 48-31 victory over Clay County in
the quarterfinals of the girls' state high school tournament
After inching out to a 19-16 halftime lead, the 16th Region
champion Lady Vikings (22-8) were able to take control of the game
after Hamilton and Natasha Kissinger hit back-to-back 3s to take a
25-16 lead that would only grow from there.
Rowan County relied heavily on 3-point shooting, which paid huge
dividends for them, finishing 7-of-14. The Lady Vikings only
converted four 2-point shots but took advantage of their free-throw
tries, going 19-of-24.
Kayla Smith, Sabrina Smith and Whitney Belle Jackson shared the
scoring high for the Lady Tigers (28-7) of the 13th Region with
eight points each. Clay County committed 19 turnovers.
Rowan County will play Mercy in the semifinals Saturday.
