BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Kristen Stainback had 26 points while
Madison Webb scored 22 to help Scott County defeat Rockcastle
County 62-59 in a nail-biter in the semifinal of the girls' state
high school tournament Saturday afternoon.
After Angie Lawrence made a three-point field goal for the Lady
Rockets (29-5) to make the score 61-59 with nine seconds left,
Stainback made one of two free throws. Rockcastle County was not
able to get a shot off before time expired in the game.
Stainback and Webb proved to be too much for the Lady Rockets.
They made 22 of their 31 free throws and combined for 13 rebounds
for the game.
The Lady Cardinals (26-6) were down by as many as five in the
fourth quarter, but they went on a 14-3 run to take a six-point
lead. They only scored four baskets in the fourth quarter but they
went 15-21 from the free throw line.
The game featured 10 ties and 15 lead changes.
Lawrence led the Lady Rockets with 19 points while Sara Hammond
had 17 points and 8 rebounds.
