Rowan girls fall in state semis

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Ellen Sholtes led Mercy with 22 points
and 6 steals as they went on to beat Rowan County 53-45 in the
semifinal of the girls' state high school tournament Saturday
morning.
The Jaguars (26-8) used a 19-1 run throughout the first and
second quarters to pull ahead of the Lady Vikings (22-9).
Both teams got off to a rough start with Rowan County lead 7-5
after the first quarter. Then Mercy went on a decisive run and
denied Rowan County any points for 7:49. The Lady Vikings were not
able to cut the lead past 6 after the run.
Mercy had 26 points off of Rowan County's 30 turnovers as the
Jaguars stole the ball 18 times. Mercy shot 18-21 from the free
throw line to help ice the game down the stretch.
Sholtes was the only Jaguar to score in double figures, but six
players scored at least four points. Adri Neeley led the Lady
Vikings with 17 points.
