Brooks Optimistic As Wildcats Open Practice

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky football coach Rich Brooks says this year's Wildcats might be the best team he's ever coached.

The Wildcats begin their fall practices today. Brooks said he's cautiously optimistic about the Wildcats.

Brooks said this team is better than the one that won the Music City Bowl last December. However, Brooks said much of the rest of the Southeastern Conference is much-improved as well.

Kentucky displayed a potent offense behind quarterback Andre Woodson last year. The challenge is improving a defense that was one of the nation's worst.

Brooks says the team is quicker and could surprise some people on the defensive side of the ball.

The Wildcats open the season at home against Eastern Kentucky on September first.
