Former Coach And Referee Dead At 79

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (AP) - A retired educator who was well known for his high school and college basketball refereeing has died at the age of 79.

Jack Wise Junior of Stamping Ground was a former Georgetown City Council member, Scott County magistrate and assistant to former Georgetown Mayor Tom Prather.

He died Wednesday at his home in Georgetown after a short illness.

Wise was the principal of Sadieville, Great Crossing and Southern elementary schools in Scott County over a span of 27 years. He was a former commissioner of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and evaluator of basketball officials for the Southeastern Conference. He was also regional supervisor of basketball officials for the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.

Wise was a former freshman basketball coach and intramural program director at Transylvania and earned a master's degree in administration from the University of Kentucky.
