UK basketball coach Billy Gillispie is set to announce the addition of Tracy Webster to the Wildcat staff. The Courier-Journal is reporting Webster will become the third assistant coach hired by the new Cat coach.
According to the father of one of UK’s prime recruiting targets, Webster’s hiring would be “good.”
Brian Miller is the father of Mason Co. star Darius Miller, and said Webster’s hiring “would be a good move by the university.”
Darius Miller is a 6-foot-6 guard/forward for the Royals and is being recruited by some of the biggest names in college basketball, including Kentucky, Louisville and Florida.
Webster was an assistant coach at Illinois last season and was recruiting Miller for coach Bruce Weber. “He recruited Darius to Illinois,” the elder Miller told 27 SportsFirst Wednesday night. “He’s a good guy whom Darius has a good relationship with.”
Webster, who played basketball at Wisconsin, is said to have strong ties to the Chicago area.
“Webster is a good recruiter who’ll be a big help to coach Gillispie and UK,” Miller said.
Darius Miller reportedly has narrowed his list of schools to six and would choose a school by the end of fall, but rumors continue to swirl about the possibility his decision is now down to just UK and Louisville.
“That’s not the case,” said his father. “He’s not made a final decision. Darius says he’ll announce before the season starts.”
“But I expect Darius to wake up any morning, and it could be soon, and tell me that he’s decided where he wants to go to school,” Miller continued. “He’s the type of kid that would do that because he’d rather not have all that pressure and attention on him.”
