Barker seeing drastic change in UK football recruiting

LEXINGTON, KY (WKYT) - The football Wildcats currently have 19 commitments for the the 2014 class, but it wasn't until April 13th that really turned the tide. On that day, UK football immediately changed. "When I went to the spring game it really opened my eyes," says UK recruit Drew Barker. "A big crowd came out and just seeing all the support, that was just like the starting point of what UK football could be if I committed and maybe bring some other guys with me and start something special."
Barker's announcement a month later was the sixth, but it was the first UK fans could really put their finger on. A local guy much like others who once gave the BBN hope. Barker recalls the approach Mark Stoops and the UK coaches used during their visit. "You want to become the hometown hero. You live in this state and follow in the footsteps of Couch, Lorenzen, Woodson and guys like that."
When the 4-star quarterback from Conner made his announcement to attend UK, it also started a brand new way of recruiting. Social media has really helped the recruiting process, not just for UK but for anybody, but when the Cats get a big time recruit, one word is tweeted to everyone. YAHTZEE! "You know if you see somebody, a coach or a recruit tweet out Yahtzee!, the fans automatically get excited, says Barker with a big grin. "It's like the one word everybody wants to see. I think it's really good for the program and kinda like their catch phrase."
