BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Austin Woolum's 35-yard field goal lifted Belfry to a 3-0 win over Wayne County and the KHSAA Class 3A championship Friday at Western Kentucky University's Houchens Industries L.T. Smith Stadium.
Austin Hatfield ran for 114 yards for the Pirates (13-1), who won their first title since 2004 after finishing as the runner-up the last three years. Wayne County (14-1) made its first appearance in the title game.
Woolum scored after a 13-play drive to open the second half.
Justin Johnson piled up 57 rushing yards and Sani Warren added 41 yards as the Pirates amassed 235 total yards on the ground.
Tyler Guffey completed 12 of 30 passes for 169 yards and two interceptions for Wayne County, and Jason Perkins added five catches for 103 yards.
Austin Hall intercepted Guffey on the final drive to seal the victory for Belfry.
