LEXINGTON, KY. (WKYT) - Mark Stoops has made several appearances leading up to the start fo fall practice. The final one came Friday at the UK Kickoff Luncheon at the Hyatt Regency. Kentucky opens practice Monday afternoon.
Stoops said the first message to his team when practice begins will be hard work. "Thats been our motto and really I'm not into all the cliches and all the mottos and all those things. But one thiing that we will be is a football team that's a hard working group, a blue-collar, fundamental football team. So that first message on Monday, no on Sunday night (when the Cats report), is coming in there, I may be wearing a hard hat and get the message across that we need a lot of work to do. It's one day at a time and brick by brick we're going to get this thing done."
Offensive coordinator Neal Brown when direct a quarterback battle when practice begins. Brown said freshman Reese Phillips from Signal Mountain, Tennessee will be included. Brown said hopefully one will step forward. "It's gonna be based on who can get us in the end zone. At the end of the day that's whats gotta happen."
Defensive coordinator D.J. Eliot said he had a plan in place. "That may adjust based on what our strengths and weaknesses are. But the first thing we have to do is to get our players to believe in what we're doing. And we are going to show them how they can be successful and what it takes to be successful. We have video and some other things to show them about places where we've been that its worked and other players that have been successful doing it."
