Brooklyn Fox named OVC Defensive Player of the Week

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Defensive back Brooklyn Fox was named the adidas OVC Defensive Player of the Week following his performance in the Eastern Kentucky University football game against Purdue on Saturday.

Fox, a native of Tulsa, Okla., intercepted two passes and recovered a fumble against the Boilermakers. The senior’s first interception came on Purdue’s opening drive of the game as he picked off a pass at EKU’s own 34-yard line. Fox also notched an interception at the EKU 30-yard line in the second quarter before returning it 46 yards to the Purdue 24-yard line. The fumble recovery came early in the fourth quarter, setting the Colonels up at the Purdue 20-yard line.

Fox was the first EKU player to tally three turnovers in a game since Patrick McClellan accomplished the feat versus UT Martin on Oct. 17, 2009.

The other weekly award winners were Eastern Illinois’ Jimmy Garoppolo (Offensive), UT Martin’s Cody Sandlin (Specialist), Jacksonville State’s Troymaine Pope (Co-Newcomer) and Tennessee Tech’s Da’Rick Rogers (Co-Newcomer).

Meanwhile, Fox was also named the College Football Performance Awards’ National Defensive Back of the Week.

Eastern Kentucky (0-1) will next host Morehead State in the Colonels’ home opener on Saturday, Sept. 8. The game is slated to start at 6 p.m.
