UK Coach John Calipari getting what he called an unbelievable reception upon his arrival in the Dominican Republic Tuesday.
Calipari invited WKYT along for his journey to the Caribbean that will include Haiti Wednesday.
In Santo Domingo Calipari met with officials about his job to coach the Dominican national team in the upcoming Tournament of the Americas, an Olympic qualifying event.
Later in the day at a news conference he said former Lakers' coach Del Harris and former St. John's standout Felipe Lopez will be on his staff along with Orlando Antigua and Rod Strickland who work with him at UK.
Calipari was given a tour of facilities used by the Dominican national team, went to a school where he addressed the student body. toured the oldest cathedral in the new world , and visited the home of Christopher Columbus.
Tuesday night Calipari will meet the president of the Dominican Republic and attend a private reception.
Wednesday his journey will take him to earthquake devastated Haiti.
