California Chrome jogs at Churchill Downs

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - California Chrome is expected to be installed as the favorite Wednesday to win Saturday's 140th running of the Kentucky Derby. The colt stepped on the Churchill Downs track for the first time Tuesday morning after flying in Monday from California.

Exercize rider William Delgado said he was more aggressive than usual.

California Chrome has won his last four starts and is undefeated with Victor Espinoza in the saddle. His most recent wins, the San Felipe by 71/2 lengths, then the Santa Anita Derby by 51/4 lengths.

California Chrome is trained by Art Sherman who has been in the business since the early 1950s. he was an exercise rider for Kentucky Derby winner Swaps in 1955.

Sherman is now back at the Derby with the best horse hes ever had. "I've been around a lot of good horses." said Sherman. "He just has talent, we haven't gone to the bottom of him yet. When they win by seven or eight lengths I wish I had my jocks license again and I could ride him."
