LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - UK coach John Calipari says sophomore Ryan Harrow can be as good as any point guard in the country, if he will touch his teammates. Calipari wants Harrow to reach out, be more vocal and lead.
Calipari has coached some of the best point guards in the game. After Tuesday night's 77-55 victory over South Carolina, he said Harrow must do what those players do. "The best point guards in the NBA and the best point guards in college basketball are always touching their teammates. They just touch, and I mean physically you touch them all the time. You're always near them, you're touching, you're talking to them. We're trying to get him in that mode, it's just not natural for him."
Harrow sat out last season after transferring from North Carolina State. He's made strides at UK following John Wall, Brandon Knight and Marquis Teague. "I've just got to keep on working, try to pick my energy up as much as I can, do whatever I can to help the team on the defensive end and running the team on the offensive end."
Calipari says Harrow can't be laid back. "You all know you can't play that way. And we're just trying to convice him that when he does play the right way, I believe he's as good as any point guard in the country. The other guy is not really that good."
