LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky hasn't played its first league game and already coach John Calipari has been asked to handicap the race for the national championship.
The Wildcats are the defending national champions, but their coach doesn't think they're ready for the big stage.
"I think there's 30-40 teams that could get to the Final Four," Calipari said on Wednesday. "I don't think there's any clear cut national champion winner."
Calipari said Louisville and Duke are two teams that could make a run at the title. Calipari said Michigan shoots the ball well enough to go deep into March. But he warned the Wolverines may rely too heavily on outside shooting.
"Scares me sometimes because you go on a run and you'll go a month and can't make a shot. If that's what you're relying on, your team goes south."
Calipari added that Michigan currently could be playing the basketball of any team in the country.
As for the Wildcats, Calipari is hopeful his team will improve by the time the tournament rolls around.
