LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky coach John Calipari on Thursday called the 1996 and 2012 UK teams "two of the beter teams in the last 25 years."

Speaking to reporters at the John Calipari Fantasy Experience, Calipari was asked to compare the two teams. Members of the 1996 Kentucky national champions are back on campus participating in the camp.

"We beat them," Calipari said, in reference to his UMass team that knocked off the Wildcats on Nov. 28, 1995 to start the season.

Rick Pitino's UK team would avenge that loss with a 67-64 win over Calipari and the Minutemen in the 1996 Final Four, propelling the Wildcats to the school's sixth national championship.

"That team wouldn't have been together, because they'd all have left early," Calipari said. "They also sacrificed for each other, where guys were playing 23-24 minutes a game, which in this day and age is a little harder to do."
