LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - John Calipari is coaching a great offensive team and one that needs to makes some strides at the defensive end to reach its goals. He's said repeatedly it's the youngest team hes ever coached. After Kentucky's 80-64 win over Ole Miss Tuesday, he said he's having to coach too much.
"I'm still having to do too much coaching, but that's o.k." said Calipari. "I just came to terms with I'm going to coach like I'm 35, I don't care. I'll die when the season ends, go hide somewhere, shrivel up somewhere. But right now I'm going to just coach them and bring them along."
Calipari insists he's not beating his team down. "We've got a bunch of young guys, they're getting better." said Calipari. "I'm holding them accountable. I'm holding them responsible. I'm loving them, I'm not beating them down. I'm not beating them down in practice. We're raising the bar now, and we're going hard and we're going body to body. But I'm not trying to beat them down, these are 18 year old kids."
Kentucky returns to action at Mississippi State Saturday. Tipoff will be at 1:30 p.m. on WKYT. Game Time Wildcat Warm-Up will begin at 1:00 p.m.
