LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - UK coach John Calipari is recovering from hip surgery and looking forward to his team's summer trip to the Bahamas in August. Calipari spoke Monday on an ESPN podcast with Andy Katz and Seth Greenburg.
Asked about his recovery, Caliapri sadi he was still hobbled. "I'm good and four weeks in, I'll tell ya what it did, it made me slow down. I had to take three weeks in Florida and just had to, I rested for the first time in like seven years where I had to sleep some. So it made me slow down and it's going to take me a little while longer, but I'm walking without a cane right now but I'm still hobbled.
Calipari will take his team to the Bahamas for a summer trip in August. Usually practice time is most important when making a summer trip but this time Calipari says it will be the games. He wants his team to play top level competition. "We're doing it the other way, we are going to practice, get something out of it, but we're going to go against national teams that we should not beat, we should go 0-6."
Calipari wouldn't elaborate because plans are not finalized. "They have NBA players on them, we're getting it all squared away right now and, ya know, I'm trying to keep that under the hat."
