Calipari tweaks offense in practice

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Speaking on his weekly radio show Monday on the UK IMG Network, John Calipari said he tweaked his offense in practice and it changed everything.

Calipari offered no specifics but he said players left practice "bouncy and talking." The UK coach told Tom Leach, "We tweaked the offense a little bit, and it was a small tweak, something that I should have done a month ago, but the energy in our building, I’m jacked. Like, I am ready for us now to take the next step.”

Calipari said he apologized to the team for not making the change sooner. "I screwed this up, now make me look good."

The Wildcats, who began the year the top-ranked team in the nation amid a buzz of possibly even going unbeaten, have fallen out of the Top 25.

They have lost three of their last four games, including Saturday's 84-65 loss at No. 1 Florida. Kentucky (22-9, 12-6 Southeastern Conference) struggled offensively and the Gators shot 60 percent from the field, a reflection of the Wildcats' struggles down the stretch.

UK opens SEC Tournament play as the No. 2 seed Friday. Kentucky gets a double-bye and will play either LSU or Alabama. Tipoff will be at 7:00 p.m. on WKYT. WIldcat Warmup will begin at 6:30 p.m.
