LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Everything apparently is going well for the Cats after the first two days of early morning conditioning. Coach John Calipari is calling it Camp Cal. Kentucky is back on the Rupp Arena floor Saturday taking on Portland.
Calipari said his team needed to get in shape after Tuesday night's game with Samford. The Wildcats won the game by 32 points but outscored the Bulldogs by only one in the second half.
Speaking before practice, Nerlens Noel and Jarrod Polson said the conditioning is tiring but everyone is doing well. Calipari expects a strong test from a Portland team that has good size. "I hate to tell you, they look a lot like Notre Dame to me and they had Vegas (UNLV) beat.
Portland is only 3-5 but Calipari is eager to see how his team responds. "I told our team, 'we're going to see now if you're only doing it because I'm making you do it, or you're doing it because you want to change.' Now it'll be for everybody to see. Because if they're only doing it because I'm making them do it, at some point in the game they'll let go of the rope."
Tipoff for Kentucky and Portland will be at noon Saturday, the gmae televised by ESPNU.
