Bidding for a "Kentucky Triple Crown"

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Jockey Steve Cauthen teamed up with NASCAR driver Carl Edwards Tuesday as California Chrome's bid for the Triple Crown nears.

Cauthen, who rode Affirmed to the Triple Crown in 1978, hosted Edwards Tuesday at his Dreamfields farm near Verona, Kentucky.

Edwards has won a Truck Series race and a Nationwide race at the Speedway, but on June 28th he'll try to make it a triple by adding a Sprint Cup victory in the Quaker State 400.

Cauthen said he'd like to see another Triple Crown winner, 36 years have passed since Affirmed's victory at Belmont Park. "It really just proves how difficult it is to just pull it off, it's a tough combination of races in a short span of time, three different tracks. Takes a very special horse to do it and there hasn't been one quite special enough yet, but this looks like it could be the year."
