Cat's Begin Fall Practice

Lexington, Ky. If you listen to Mark Stoops, it was your typical opening day of fall camp, albeit with a few exceptions. First, because of a quirk in the end of UK's summer school schedule, the Cats are practicing Monday-Thursday of this week at 6:00 am! Stoops. Of course players are just in helmets and shells initially, but the head coach, for the most part, liked what he saw.

"It was a good first day, really high energy for the early morning practice, Stoops told reporters just before 8:00am. A good job by our defense, great communications, good competition on plays. We need to continue to clean up on offense as you'd suspect, still a little rusty but a good first day."

One of those areas that needs to be cleaned up, catching the football. It was a problem for receivers last year and that area was not crisp on opening day.

"We need to continue to improve around the quarterback", the head coach flatly told an early rising media contingent.

Also singled out by his teammates, top recruit Matt Elam, the big defensive lineman out of E-Town was called a "bulldozer" inside by Bud Dupree.

These Cats will have to "sleep fast" as they hit the practice field again Tuesday morning at 6:00am.
