LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - UK coach John Calipari plans on getting his team in shape and conditioning for the Cats will begin at 7 a.m. Thursday. Calipari was not satisfied with what he saw in the second half of Tuesday's game with Samford.

Kentucky whipped Samford 88-56 but outscored the Bulldogs by only one pont in the second half. Calipari said the players were taking Wednesday off but would begin conditioning Thursday morning with practice later in the day. "I don't know why else they wouldn't play if we've lost our last two games, because we didn't compete. So you come out and for 20 minutes and you compete, then you come out the second half and you don't, then you're not in shape."

Two of Cal's talented freshmen took the news of the early morning conditioning in stride. "We're in shape at spurts but ya know, he wants us to be in the best shape you can be," said forward Alex Poythress. "If we've got to condtion every morning then so be it, we'll condition every morning." 7-footer Willie Cauley-Stein questioned the decision but believes it'll help build a young team. "I don't think it's needed but it's gonna make us better. Cauley-Stein added, "I think it's all in our minds, so ya know the first two weeks of it is gonna be crazy."

Calipari said he would have strength coach Ray "Rock" Oliver plan the conditioning.
