Lexington, Ky. (WKYT) - Seven-footer Willie Cauley-Stein came into UK as the lowest rated recruit in John Calipari's latest No. 1 ranked recruting. Since arriving in June hes drawn nothing but praise from Cal as he approaches his freshman season as a Wildcat.
Coming out of Olathe, Kansas, Cauley-Stein is an outstanding athlete who competed in track, tennis, soccer, baseball and football. But now it's all basketball, he says he's improved in every way and he has heard Calipari's praise. "It's good hearing it, ya know it helps confidence, like hearing coach Cal say it and like when your teammates start telling you that, that you're better than you think your are. Stuff like that it kind of helps you confidence wise."
Calipari has talked many times about playing Cauley-Stein and 6-10 freshman Nerlens Noel together. Both players like the Idea. Cauley-Stein says, "We'd be long, we're already a long team the way it is. You put us two and Alex, and Archie and then Ryan all at the same time, that's a big lineup. Noel believes the fans would love it, "The fans can expect to catch a lot of balls into the stands. I think we'll be blocking a lot of shots, me and him down low."
Cauley-Stein has put on a lot of weight since arriving in Lexington. He's now listed at 244. Right now he says he doesn't know how much hes improved. "I still haven't realized it. But I think if I watch film, ya know watch film from then and watch film from now it would just be crazy, like how much better that I have gotten.
