Cauley-Stein returns more confident

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - UK big man Willie Cauley-Stein could have entered the NBA draft and heard his name called in the first round. He made the decison to come back and he now looks toward a second season at Kentucky as a more confident player.

"Just more confidence," Cauley-Stein said. "I feel like this is my year and I've got to take care of business. I really want to win a championship before I leave and I think this year's the perfect year to do it."

Alex Poythress and Cauley-Stein came in together as freshmen at Kentucky last year. Poythress says the 7-footer has been working to improve his game at both ends. "He's working on his jump hooks, hes been working a mid-range jumper a little bit, getting a little better feel for the game offensively. And getting a better feel for the game defensively too, he's starting to alter more shots and grab more rebounds."

Cauley-Stein is sidelined at the moment with a hand injury suffered last Friday. Coach John Calipari says he's being pushed hard by freshman Dakari Johnson. Cauley-Stein says the competition will only improve his game. He's aware of the hype leading up to the season but he's not listening to it. "Can't believe in the hype, we had a lot of hype last year and we sold ourselves short."
