LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – When the Kentucky men’s basketball team travels to the Bahamas this summer for a series of exhibition games, two Wildcats won’t be playing.
Junior big man Willie Cauley-Stein and incoming freshman Trey Lyles both are recovering from injuries and both won’t play. Coach John Calipari made the announcement on Tuesday via Twitter.
Cauley-Stein had surgery after the season on an ankle he injured in a Sweet 16 tournament game against Louisville. Calipari said Lyles is recovering from a medical procedure on his left leg.
Lyles is a McDonald’s All-American from Indianapolis and Indiana’s Mr. Basketball.
“Like Willie, we’re going to hold Trey out for the games in the Bahamas while he recovers from a medical procedure,” Calipari said on his Twitter account.
“Both Willie and trey could probably play if they really wanted to, but I’m not taking a chance on either kid.”
“I want them 100 percent for the start of our season and there’s no reason to push these guys before they are absolutely read,” Cal said.
