BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - Defensive back Cejay Ceniza was named the adidas OVC Defensive Player of the Week following his performance in the Eastern Kentucky University football team's 51-21 triumph over No. 24 Jacksonville State on Saturday.
Ceniza accounted for three turnovers as No. 21 Eastern Kentucky won its third straight meeting against the Gamecocks. The native of Las Vegas, Nev., notched his first ever interception as a Colonel in the first quarter and later recovered a fumble in the second quarter which led to a Colonel touchdown. He capped the night by intercepting a pass in the fourth quarter and returning it 84 yards for a touchdown to put EKU on top, 51-15, with 14:45 to play. That play marked the fourth-longest interception return in the FCS this season. Ceniza also added four solo tackles on the night.
Ceniza is the second EKU player to earn this award in 2012. Fellow defensive back Brooklyn Fox was named OVC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 2.
