LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - He's only been there three months, but University of Kentucky football coach Mark Stoops is already leaving an impression on the Bluegrass.
Dozens attended this years first Good Morning Bluegrass event to listen to coach Stoops speak about the upcoming season. He discussed how he plans to strengthen the team and create the best football team Kentucky has had yet.
"I'm dedicated to this program" explains Stoops, " I'm there to teach the players how to play. That is who I am and what I bring to the table."
Prior to joining the University of Kentucky, Stoops was the defensive coordinator at Florida State University. He improved their defense from 108th in the country to top 20.
Audience members at the event were able to ask Stoops questions. Many of them inquiring about how he was hired and what he plans to do to make Kentucky a top level contender.
"I think what Coach Stoops will bring is that enthusiasm to those kids he talked a little bit today," explains Mike Ash, UK supporter and President of Fifth Third Bank. "He talked about having these camps for high school kids and younger kids, and thats going to be the building blocks and it's going to inspire them to want to one day hopefully come and want to play at UK."
The first game of the year is on August 31st.
